That’s right, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we’re not talking about Christmas. Halloween is the time of year when people can let their freak flag fly! If there’s anything that Colorado loves almost as much as a weed, it’s infusing the good old mile HIGH flavor into the already delightful spook show that is the Halloween season.
If you want to add more ghoulish festivities into your fall, or are a non-stop horror fanatic looking to soak up all the macabre celebrations before they’re gone, we have something for you. Denver has everything from ghost tours, to gut-wrenching haunted houses, and even some 420-friendly events.
Some things are just better when you’re high, and in our opinion, the only thing better than going to a haunted house is going to a haunted house stoned! In the event that you’re looking to experience some screams, chills, and maybe some nightmares, Colorado is always eager to please with its seemingly endless supply of Haunted experiences. Here are just a few recommendations. The only downside is that haunted experiences do not promote the consumption of cannabis on site. So bring along some Buddy Boy Brands edibles!
The 13th Floor haunted house has held it’s well earned title for the most popular haunted house in Denver for years now. This bone-chilling experience takes place in a multi-story structure and is guaranteed to make you jump out of your skin. Tickets for The 13th Floor range from $20-$50 depending on the date and features of the ticket.
This haunted experience will take your “haunted house” and raise you a whole compound! These guys have been terrifying the masses for 35 years, and make it a point to get more gruesome with each passing year. Who knows, you might even get to meet the founder, who is rumored to have been laid to rest on the property. Tickets for the Frightmare Compound range from $29.99 – $33.00 depending on the date.
This scream park (yes, scream park) is the caviar of haunted experiences. Located in Thornton, this 40 acre attraction is a ghoul’s dream! With two escape rooms, carnival games, and four haunted experiences, this is guaranteed to scratch the itch for something frightening! Tickets for the Haunted Field of Screams range from $45 – $90 depending on the level of access. This experience is at the highest price point, but it’s well worth it.
A Ghoul’s Night In
If you’re looking to get into the spirit, but the idea of putting on real pants and venturing into the world is just not in the cards for you, we have a few suggestions that will bring the festive Halloween flair to your home.
Pumpkin Carving, Stoner Style
Every stoner needs something to smoke out of, and what better way to carve pumpkins than the stoner way? Typical jack-o-lanterns are fun and all, but let’s be honest, all they do is sit there and look pretty. Before you know it they’re looking as frightening as the idea of having a fresh 8th and no lighter. Why not carve a pumpkin into something that you can use?
Pumpkin bongs are a great way to get into the Halloween spirit. You’ll feel festive when you build it and each time you use it. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving! We recommend making the bong before smoking up. Safety first, kids!
You will need:
- A pumpkin
- A knife
- A spoon to scoop the seeds
- A downstem & bowl
- A mouthpiece or straw
- Cut off the top of your pumpkin and set aside (You’ll need it later)
- Make it large enough that you can scoop out all of the pumpkin guts.
- Cut a whole for the downstem.
- Make sure it’s high enough that there is room for the downstem on the inside.
- It’s better to start with a smaller hole. You can always cut a bigger hole, but you can’t make a smaller one.
- Cut a hole on the opposite side for the mouthpiece.
- We recommend using a tapered mouthpiece so you don’t have to put your mouth on the pumpkin each time you smoke, but a straw will work as well.
- Insert the mouthpiece and downstem.
- Put the top back on & enjoy!
Stoner Scavenger Hunt
Just because you want to stay home doesn’t mean that you’re not here to party. A treasure or scavenger hunt may seem childish at first, but it’s a great way to add mystery and intrigue to any get together. You can choose how simple and complicated you want it to be, and scavenger hunts are easy to build, and even easier to add some stoner flare. Figure out the location of each clue, and use Halloween decorations to mark where they are (spiderwebs, monsters, eyeballs etc..). To keep things extra festive, start the hunt with a pre roll to get things started. You could also leave one component of a joint at each clue, the person to figure it out will win the joint.
If you’ve been to enough haunted houses and seen plenty of scary movies, but still can’t get enough Halloween in your life, Denver has a few different cannabis related Halloween themed yoga classes. This isn’t something you get to experience every day. Some are even in costume. Who doesn’t want to burn one and do some yoga dressed like a dinosaur?
What happens when you mix Halloween, cannabis, yoga, and a laser show? The best possible form of madness. Don’t miss this one of a kind experience on October 31st from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm.
Hosted at Urban Sanctuary and 1906, this Denver party is guaranteed to be a great time. Costumes are encouraged, so get fit and festive on October 26th. Tickets are $15.
Have an awesome and safe “Halloweed” & always partake responsibly!
