The hemp plant and the marijuana plant are both classified as a Schedule 1 drug according to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Though both fall under the same classification, they are two very different plants with two very different uses. Hemp is considered more of an industrial crop and marijuana is grown for its medicinal and psychoactive effects. The two plants have different traits and therefore they are also grown in different manners.
Hemp is primarily an industrial crop used to make paper, rope, plastic, and fuel. Marijuana plants, pictured above, are grown for their medicinal and recreational uses.
