The Most Anticipated TV Shows for 2022

02/7/2022 Culture & Entertainment

With a new year undoubtedly comes a new line of TV shows, movies and limited mini series available for us to watch. So for these months that are still cold outside, here are some awesome and most-anticipated shows to sit back and relax to. And what could be better than curling up on your couch with your favorite marijuana product, some good friends and a good flick to watch??  Enjoy these shows for 2022 – and no worries, no spoilers here!

The show that just keeps getting better, Ozark is back with its 4th season. With a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 94%, this series continues the saga of the Byrde family as they navigate the precarious waters of illegal drug trafficking, money laundering and the actual waters of Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri.  This 4th and final season is broken up into two parts, with part one having been released on January 21, 2022 on Netflix. The second part is scheduled for release sometime in 2022 and promised to ‘tie up lose ends’ from part 1.  The suspense is killing us!

Jason Bateman and Laura Linney are back as Marty and Wendy Byrde, but it’s Julia Garner‘s Ruth Langmore character that is the show’s break out star. If you remember from the end of season 3, Ruth and Marty had some huge problems that broke up their partnership. Season 4 helps to explain what happens next. Having already won two primetime Emmy awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, it’s no surprise that Julia appears in another show on our list. We’ll have to wait to see if three times is a charm for this up-and-coming actress.

Pam and Tommy

For those of us old enough to remember the media frenzy that was the leaked Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee sex tape, we get to relive the scandal all over again. And for those who don’t know about it, this will certainly be a treat. Back in the 90s when Pamela Anderson was the most searched keyword on all search engine (which, incidentally helped ushered in changes in how search engine algorithms work), the pair had a whirlwind romance that lasted 4 days before getting hitched on the beach in Cancun, Mexico.

While the story is sensational and amazingly true to the actual story, what is more stunning is the transformation of the lead actors in the sensational docu-mini series. With a prosthetic forehead and breast plate, Lily James (who played Lady Rose on Downton Abbey) plays the blonde bombshell and the portrayal is almost breaking the internet. Sebastian Stan from Captain America and I, Tonya plays Lee. The performances are so real, you’ll feel like you’re back in the 90s watching – along with billions of people in the world – Baywatch to catch Pam in her trademark red bathing suit.

At the time of this writing 3 episodes have been released on Hulu, with the following 5 episodes to be released weekly through March 9, 2022.

Space Force

The comedy series Space Force starts its second hilarious season in February on Netflix. Steve Carell (from, of course, The Office) returns as four-star general Mark R. Naird, with John Malkovich returning as the frustrated but dedicated scientist Dr. Adrian Mallory and Ben Schwartz (from Sonic the Hedgehog) returns again as social media director F. Tony Scarapiducci.

For those who missed season 1, the series is loosely based on the (ridiculous) real-life Space Force ordered by the former president back in 2019, Space Force season 2 continues to follow the team’s attempt to achieve space dominance under a presidential new administration. The series does a brilliant job of making just-enough fun of this new branch of the US military armed service. And with Steve Carell, it’s gotta be funny!

Space Force Season 2 is available on Netflix starting on February 18, 2022.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

So, I’ll admit: though I – like most people on the planet – love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I’m not so sure about a series based on the story. Based on stories from author J.R.R. Tolkien, the series will cover events that happened in Middle Earth before events in The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy. And for those who watched all the Hobbit movies, you might agree that this is a lot of LOTR. Still, die-hard fans will likely love the series.

The series is said to take place thousands of years (yes, thousands!) before The Hobbit, so if this first go is successful, we can rest assured that there will be many more seasons to cover these millennia. The premise will cover the forging of the rings of power and also the alliance between man and elves.

If you’re into Super Bowl commercials, Amazon (the producing studio) has recently announced a teaser trailer will air during the February 13, 2022 game.

Inventing Anna

Rounding out our picks for hot shows to watch in 2022 is Inventing Anna. This series, created by the amazing Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, Bridgeton) tell the sensational story of Russian-born Anna Sorokin who posed as a wealthy Germany heiress in order to scam and steal from the wealthy and elite of New York City. Arrested in 2017, Sorokin had scammed and defrauded a number of hotels, restaurant, travel companies and acquaintances to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Julia Garner-6708
Versatile and award-winning actress, Julia Garner

The series is scheduled to premier on Netflix (who reportedly paid Sorokin $320,000 for her story, which was in turn used to repay her victims) on February 11, 2022. Julia Garner, mentioned above as Ruth Langmore in Ozark, plays the scam artist with Anna Chlumsky and Laverne Cox also staring.
