Top 5 Podcasts About Marijuana

12/23/2021 Culture & Entertainment

Those who enjoy marijuana might be looking for an excellent podcast to listen to while high. But you don’t have to be stoned to listen – podcasts can also help you keep up with marijuana in the news. It feels like almost every day brings a new development in legalization! Podcasts can also help you to find out what’s going on with the business side. Marijuana is one of the fastest-growing businesses in today’s economy – the little engine that could save the tax base of more than one city or state.

But you have to admit – your ears really do seem to be more tuned in when you’re high. And your ability to absorb new information and ideas might also be enhanced. So listening to podcasts while high seems like a naturally good fit.

Our list of the best podcasts

Here’s our list of the 5 podcasts about weed for those who love weed and those non-users who want to know more. It’s a relief to know that, unlike in the not-so-distant past, this information is more widely available than ever and we can be more open about sharing it.

  • Marijuana Today – The Adult in the Room

Marijuana Today is a classic podcast with a lot of different voices and points of view. Three or four people active in cannabis business or policy join to discuss recent developments. Happily, a lot of contributors and guests are women. Marijuana Today is a small company based in Maine, specializing in producing media and news intelligence for the legal marijuana industry. They recently recorded their 356th podcast. Marijuana Today also broadcasts Marijuana Today Daily, a short one-person news update (but only if there is news that day). Their website, MJToday Media Newsfeed, is well-written and updated daily. Smart movers and shakers in the cannabis industry rely on the site to keep up-to-date on important news.

  • Freewheeling with Leafly

More than 100 million people visit Leafly’s website each year. Headquartered in Seattle, Leafly has five other offices in three countries. They are considered a top authority on all things marijuana.

Leafly’s podcast is a little more freewheeling than the website might indicate. Its conversational approach begins with the news and soon branches into history (“George Washington was a stoner”) and quotes the movie “Dazed and Confused“. Podcast topics range from the serious – tracking state legalizations – to the more down-to-earth like “Why gummies are the king of all edibles”.  And they are not afraid to criticize politicians – we love that!

If you want to feel like you’re in the middle of a wide-ranging, well-informed conversation with friends, Freewheeling is an excellent podcast to check out.  www.leafly.com/news/podcasts

  • CannaInsider — A Kind and Well-Informed Voice

CannaInsider was started by Matthew Kind in Colorado, which he calls “ground zero in the rapidly evolving and immensely lucrative cannabis market”.  CannaInsider is focused on the business of cannabis, and the website and podcast both have a serious and calm tone. (And I need to say Matthew Kind’s voice is very kind!) The episodes are a snappy 30 minutes or so. It’s an interview-based format, with business owners providing great information.

They are highly focused on the details of success in an industry that is surprisingly diverse and intense. Listening to this podcast is not super-relaxing, but you’ll feel more connected and informed. www.cannainsider.com/interviews/

  • Brave New Weed – Interviews for the Uncommon Stoner

Hosted by Joe Dolce, who also wrote the book “Brave New Weed“, this podcast features “high-minded conversations for the post-prohibition era”.  Dolce and his guest settle in for over an hour of articulate give-and-take that leaves you feeling enriched. Guests range from a Buddhist monk, scientists, authors, lawyers and even a chef working on perfecting edibles.

Joe Dolce said he wanted to write the book because of the last 60 years of misinformation about cannabis. He is not a stoner, but he went to the ends of the earth to learn about marijuana. He speaks from a place of deep curiosity. Listen to Brave New Weed to really let your mind run free. These are the voices that let you connect to your own more profound intellect and higher principles. www.bravenewweed.com

  • Great Moments in Weed History – Fun Stories from the Past, with Friends

Great Moments in Weed History is a podcast that “delves deep into humanity’s 10,000+ year relationship with cannabis (a.k.a. “marijuana”) to find the humor, heart, and historical importance of this very special plant”.  The podcast is two friends (Abdullah Saeed and David Bienenstock – or Abdullah and Bean) just talking to each other and bringing in a guest to dive deep into history. Billie Holiday and Maya Angelou are featured in their dialogue, and Willie Nelson shows up frequently. The tone is funny and full of heart, and while well-researched, has a fresh and casual feel.

The show is entertaining but also has a clear mission. Saeed said, “The fact of the matter is we’re counteracting a culture that has been biased against weed for decades based on a complete lack of understanding, and that’s far more dangerous.”

Great Moments in Weed History only uploads an episode occasionally, but there are two new episodes from April 2021. Check this one out when you’d like to hang with friends. https://player.fm/series/great-moments-in-weed-history

Listening to Connect

You might say that the podcast is a new art form, a way to hear real people at their most authentic. Whether you partake or not, podcasts take you into marijuana’s fascinating history and future, bringing it to your ears, your mind and your life.
